Emcee Isamu Jordan’s passing in 2013 understandably grounded local favorites the Flying Spiders, whose “sexy intelligent” urban funk Jordan orchestrated with a cast of chops-rich players. Some, including guitarist Justyn Priest and lyricist Andrew Hauan, have now coalesced under a new, more genial moniker, Vernita Avenue, a second act of sorts for the jam-band rap they once perfected as terrifying, gravity-defying insects.
