Elliott Smith is (rightfully) a deity in Portland. So you won’t find folks comparing contemporary musicians to Him too often, for fear of (a) ridiculous overstatement and (b) burdening a bright new talent with unreasonable expectations. Two Moons doesn’t so much sound like Smith in song or structure, but the Portland trio’s Strings EP definitely has the same kind of gentle lo-fi vibe. It’s an added bonus that Two Moons kind of sounds like a more languorous version of Midwest pop-rock band Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
